Breakfast At Petite Madeline Bakery

Every time we are fortunate enough to spend the night at the Seahorse we walk north towards the pier and head a few blocks inland to our favorite breakfast spot, Petite Madeline Bakery. It's a French style bakery with a tremendous full breakfast menu and I hear their lunch is spectacular as well.  Our kids love the French Toast and Eggs Benedict.  Their coffee is top notch and we can't ever seem to leave without a fruit tart or slice of carrot cake to go.

This one is a guaranteed good start to the day.  Enjoy.

At Home Dining

One of the best things about staying at a hotel is in-room dining, massages, etc.  But what's better? Having a catered dinner or massage at the Seahorse.  Below are some of our favorites to make your stay at home perfect.

Bagby Beer Company

Oceanside is getting pretty well know for it's micro-breweries and we like Bagby Beer Co.  It's about a 10 minute walk from the Seahorse.  They have a huge assortment of great beers and their food is definitely aimed at a hipster, foodie kind of crowd.

The environment is super clean and you'll find a mix of local surfers enjoying a beer after a long session alongside technology entrepreneurs having a working lunch.   Weekend evenings are more of young party crowd, but it's still low key.  While it doesn't feel huge, it's more than large enough to accommodate a large business party or family reunion.

The Beach!

Without question, the best thing to do at the Seahorse is enjoy the beach.  All you have to do is grab a chair, boogie board, some sand toys and walk about 10 steps.  If you need a drink or to take a break from the sun, just stroll back to your private patio.

We provide a bunch of fun things to use (boogie boards, sand toys, smash ball, chairs, etc).  When the tide is extremely high, you may want to walk north a bit where the beach is wider.  But at low or medium tide, straight out front is the place to be.

For surfers, there's a solid right just in front of the patio and a good left about 50 yards south.  The best swells are south or south west.  For even better waves, head north to the pier or Oceanside harbor.  But you'll also get more crowds.  For a real-time surf cam right infront of our place, click here.

Legoland

One of our favorite places to hang for the day is Legoland.  It's about a 15 minute drive south and it makes for a great family experience.

There are now three parks at Legoland, the main Legoland Park, the Legoland Waterpark, and the SeaLife Aquarium.  They're all fantastic.  If you're visiting Legoland in the Fall/Winter season, make sure to check their website for hours and to see if the Waterpark is open (it's seasonal).

Legoland is perfect for the little ones, but our thirteen year old daughter still loves it.  Best picks for food:  Hit the Knights' Smokehouse BBQ for a "real BBQ" meal.  And finish with dessert of Granny's Apple Fries or at the Castle Ice Cream Shop with Breyer's Ice Cream.  These won't disappoint.

Lastly, we often have discounted LegoLand passes, so be sure to ask us before you buy them at full price.

For more information, check out their website here.

Rock Stacking

According to my kids, they invented the art of stacking rock at the beach.  I guess we'll never really know.  However, the careful balancing act of stacking rocks gives the kids hours of fun.  You won't believe how many people stop by and take pictures of these incredible creations at the water's edge.  It's always fun to see what kind of creations they come up with and we always have a contest to see which ones can stand up to the test of a high tide.

333 Pacific

333 Pacific is one of our favorite places to have a stylish and elegant meal.  If you're looking for something within walking distance from the Seahorse and is upscale but still casual, this is the place. We love to walk over early for happy hour (try the martini with blue cheese stuffed olives) and then stay for dinner.   The fish is always fantastic as are their steaks and chops. You can't miss here.

The Oceanside pier is about a 10 minute walk north from the Seahorse Villa.  Walk up the Strand and enjoy the variety of parks, food items, and of course the ocean.   The pier is a great place to stroll, watch the birds and mingle with the friendly locals. It also has a great history.

About mid-pier is a small bait shop where you can buy bait, rent fishing polls or feed the pet pelican if he's hanging around.  Fishing off the side of the pier is a local pastime and doesn't require a fishing license.
